Is massage suitable for everyone

Massage can be beneficial to the majority of people, if you do suffer from any medical conditions or are on regular medication, you may need to check with your doctor before commencing treatment. Treatment can’t be performed if you are suffering from an infection or contagious disease, or are under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Please contact me to discuss prior to booking an appointment if you have any concerns re your suitability.

What to wear during treatment

With the exception of Indian Head Massage (where you can remain fully clothed), you will be required to undress to your underwear. During treatment you will be covered with large towels and only the area being worked on will be uncovered. If only the upper body is being worked on you will only need to remove clothing in this area.

Will the treatment be painful?

Massage should not be painful, some discomfort may be felt in area of extreme hypersensitivity or tension where deeper techniques may be used to relieve problems. You are encouraged to discuss what you are feeling with your therapist and pressure will be adjusted to maximise your comfort.

Business / Event Massage

I can often come to an event or place of work to provide treatments, cost will depend upon location, number of participants, number and length of massage sessions, frequency of visits and whether your organization is remitting one payment for the visit or payment is collected from individual participants. Please contact me for a quote.

What do I need to provide for an ‘at home’ massage?

You only need to provide a space large enough for the massage table with room to walk around. I will bring the table, towels and oils/wax. If you would like music played, you are welcome to choose any appropriate from your selection, or I can provide a mix of classical music.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments will vary by person and the problems you are experiencing, you will hopefully feel some benefit following your 1st treatment, on average 4-6 treatments often resolve a particular issue. I do recommend that following your original treatment plan that you do book maintenance massages every 4-6 weeks to keep your muscles in good condition. However depending on your lifestyle and activity you may want more frequent sessions, many of my customers book for weekly or fortnightly relaxation treatments. It all depends on your lifestyle and budget.

How much personal information do I need to provide?

It is vital that you share with me details of illness, medication or past medical history as this can greatly influence the type of treatment that I can provide, and help me to develop an appropriate treatment plan that will address both your short and longer term goals as regards your health and fitness. All information is kept in the strictest confidence.

Will I experience any reactions following my massage?

Other than a feeling of well being, adverse reactions are uncommon. You may experience some areas of tenderness following a deep tissue or sports treatment, where techniques have been used to release non-functional tissue. Occasionally some people can be emotional following a massage, this is quite normal, and is brought about by the release of trapped hormones/chemicals within your tissue. Other people may have the urge to urinate more frequently, again this is perfectly normal.
